SK8 Competition
Lakewood SK8 conducted its Eighth Annual Skate, BMX & Video Game Competition May 16th & 17th, 2009. Saturday saw a total of about 350 registered students and about 200 parents and siblings during the course of the day. Sunday saw about 300 registered students and about 150 parents and siblings. Almost 200 of these students were attending Lakewood SK8 for the first time. Five different sponsors came out to the competition and over $3,000 worth of product and certificates were donated or given out via product tosses. Lead Pastor Brent Eldridge gave an inspiring message on Saturday and Professional Skateboarder / Speaker Richard Jefferson spoke on Sunday, during which approximately 40 students came forward to give their lives to Jesus. Thank you to all those that came out to help or support the Sk8 competition!Beach Break
We had a great time at Beach Break last week. Check out the photos on the photo page!HSM- Drive-In Movie
I have always wanted to go to a Drive-In. It always sounded like fun. It has to be a lot more comfortable to watch from your car, then the movie theater seats. The other thing that seems cool is you don't really have to worry about the guy that gets a phone call in the middle of the movie and feels compelled to answer it and carry on a conversation in the movie theater. This Friday Night (3/27), the High School Ministry @ 1BL is having a Drive-In in our parking lot. It is going to be great, so bring your friends. If you don't have a car, you can still come, bring a lawn chair and an FM radio if you have one. We'll see yuh Friday night!HSM Guest Speakers
On February 22nd, we will be having guest speakers as we continue our discussions on "Love, Sex, and Relationships". We are excited to announce that our guest speakers include Megan Fate for the Girls, and Craig Hendrickson for the guys. You won't want to miss this!

Craig Hendrickson. Since 2006, Craig has served with CRM as the founder and team leader of Urban Mosaic.

Love, Sex, and Relationship Series
This February, we will be discussing Love, Sex and Relationships on Sunday mornings. With all the input of society and media on this topic, it is important to see what God's Word says. I am excited about this series, and know that it is a very important and interesting topic for High School Students. It is a great series to tell your friends about. To help me with assessing needs for this series, I have created 2 surveys. These surveys are just for High School students, and I need as many as possible to fill this out to get good info. They are completely anonymous. You will have to enter your email address, but this is just to insure that each person does the survey only once. I will not see any email addresses in my report. Please go to these links to fill out these surveys.
thanks,
Brian Nastase

10 reasons you should come rock climbing on January 25th.
10. You've seen the movie "Cliffhanger" with Sylvester Stalone and want to role play.9. You love Spiderman, and this might be the best time to wear your new Spidey underoos (underneath your clothes of course) that you got for Christmas.
8. You could really use some good exercise after all that Holiday food.
7. You can hang on the wall and practice your monkey noises.
6. You tried climbing at camp once, and thought it was a lot of fun!
5. You've never been climbing before, and always wanted to.
4. You've never been climbing before, because you were afraid of embarrassing yourself, but realize there will be lots of others there embarrassing themselves too.
3. You've got nothing better to do on a Sunday afternoon.
2. Worst case scenario... you aren't good at climbing, but you get to hang out with your friends.
1. You can challenge your friends to races, prove your dominance over members of the opposite sex, or just go to be an encourager.
Brian's top 5 Christmas movies
1. "Elf"- (no matter how many times I see it, I still laugh just seeing Will Farrell in an elf costume, walking through New York)2. "The Christmas Story"- ("You'll shoot your eye out kid", a classic)
3. "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation"- (There is nothing quite like a Christmas with the Griswolds)
4. "Scrooged"- (I love "A Christmas Carol", and this retelling with a twist is hilarious)
5. "Home Alone"- ("Ahhhh")
Okay, before you yell at me, because I didn't put up some of the other classics like "Miracle on 34th Street", or "It's a Wonderful Life"; I didn't put those on the list because I haven't ever seen them.
Other Honorable mentions- "The Nightmare before Christmas" , "How the Grinch stole Christmas", "The Muppet Christmas Carol", and "A Christmas Carol". They are all great but this is my top 5 list not my top 10.
