Roles of Interns

CAMPUS
6 - 8 hours per week

Fall & Spring Semester commitment

Each intern is assigned a local campus and finds a way to connect with the student body and plug people into the church. Regular opportunities to teach a small group and lead discussions.

SUMMER
10 - 12 hours per week
8 week commitment starting June 1st

Summer is one of the busiest times in youth ministry for programing and relationships. This internship provides hands on training in every element of the ministry and gives a picture of what we do and why we do it.

PROGRAM

Fall & Spring Semester Commitment

Oversee various elements of our meetings as we design a place for students to engage with God weekly. Helping plan and implement monthly events with weekly training and team building.

What we are looking for in an intern?

Basically, we want people that will fit our team dynamic and have a willingness to learn. Beyond that, interns must meet our staff criteria which you can see below.

Someone that loves God:
The whole purpose of our ministry (and our church) is to Know God and Make Him Known. That is why we have leaders that have a relationship with Jesus Christ. We are not looking for people who view this relationship passively, as a past choice. Instead we want leaders who view this relationship actively, those who are growing and becoming more like Jesus. We know that no one is perfect, but we want to be sure that the leaders lifestyle is one that can be modeled by students. 1 Corinthians 11:1: Imitate me as I imitate Christ.

Someone that loves Students:
Even if you have a great relationship with God, before committing to the team, you have to know that you enjoy spending time with students. We aren't looking for staff that will just try and contain students and make sure they don't burn down the building. We are looking for staff who will want to build healthy relationships with young people and point them to Jesus Christ.

Now, some people are initially hesitant to consider Middle School Students, because during that time they had a hard time themselves. Two things to realize is that students are in need of leaders to come along side them as they navigate this stage of life and this stage is also a LOT of fun. If you are willing to meet students where they are at, then this ministry may be a fit for you.

Someone that is Available.
Many people get passionate about serving and make quick decisions to dive in without considering the cost. Studies show that students have people coming in and out of their lives all too often these days. We want leaders to be able to make a commitment that will last. Also, we want people to have balanced lives. If someone is overcommitted, they set an example that is unhealthy for students and they are unable to invest time into students lives.

In light of this, we ask leaders to consider the practical commitment of serving in our ministry. We ask every leader to follow up at whatever level they are at. Not all leaders will serve for the same amount of time, but we will all commit to following through wherever we are at.

Note from Nick: (nick=pastor)

In the mean time, let me tell you a little bit about how I see internships. My goal in having interns is to give people an accurate picture of vocational ministry while they receive hands on training. It's not just stuffing envelopes and wrapping mic cords. Sure, there are mundane tasks all the team members do, but that's just part of ministry. I like to see interns owning a piece of a ministry, working with a team and developing skills that will benefit their ministry in the short term and the long term. I'm also passionate about teams. It's not about assembling a bunch of solo acts that do their own thing (i.e. The "We are the World" Choir), it's about making a band (i.e. The Beatles). I don't view the team as a list of slots that need to be filled, I want to get the best people possible on the team and then divvy up the work based on strengths and areas people want to grow.

Our main meetings are Wednesday Nights from 6:30-8:30 and Sunday Mornings at 9:00. We are flexible on mid week office hours and want to accommodate the right person.

If you are interested in receiving training as an intern contact Nick Ranieri at nranieri@fbcol.org. If you are feeling super eager, click here to download a PDF and fax in your application. Congrats on being eager and having access to a fax machine. If you have been off set by the lack of professionalism on this page, then you may not find our ministry to be a good fit.
